Making it in network marketing requires a success oriented mindset. Without it, you won’t make it past the first few months in this business. Keep in mind that network marketing businesses are very different from your previous business experiences. Think about how long it takes someone to prepare for a specialized field in medicine, law or management. Getting a degree and moving up the ladder takes time. It is the same way in our field.

A lot of people just assume that success in network marketing in dependent on having the best product on the market, along with the best team, the best company, the best compensation system, and other things.

That’s not how success works in our field.

- If you consider yourself better than the competition, it gives off the aura that you think other companies are not safe or are inferior. First of all, I think a broad definition of network marketing or multi-level marketing (MLM ) is in order. Here it is :

Bringing product to market by using independent distributors who build and manage their group of distributors who in turn build and manage their own group of distributors. The distributors' compensation includes their own sales and a percentage of the sales of their sales group (downline).

In that definition, you see that a downline is the group of people who are directly or indirectly recruited by the distributor to either build a business and/or purchase products. It is helpful to note here that any successful distributor must also purchase products in order to take advantage of all company bonuses and to have product on hand to share with others.

In order to be successful in multi-level marketing, the distributor must build up a substantial downline of people who purchase products on a monthly basis. Since just about all MLM companies have payplans that only allow a distributor to earn a small percentage of each downline member's monthly product volume, it is extremely necessary to build a downline of at least a thousand people.

This may sound like a lot, but the nature of this business allows the use of leverage. When you have a network of people (downline) working underneath you and you benefit on all of their production, things can build up very fast.

It's Too Easy To Quit Unless You Know Your Why

Knowing why you're working your home business is just as important as how to work your home business. Don't believe me? I know it sounds like a way out there kind of statement, but it's true. The very first thing you have to do when starting your MLM, network marketing or home based business is find out why you're starting your business. Lets face it, if you don't know why you're doing it you are much, much, much more likely to throw in the towel and give up. Now that we've established that you need a why, here are some tips to finding yours.

Make it personal. This is the number one rule in finding your why. If it's not personal it's not going to motivate you in the same way. Yeah sure, we'd all love a Lamborghini and a penthouse in Manhattan. But, that's not personal for you. It's also a dream that is so far out there for most people that it's easy to shrug off and say yeah that's never gonna happen for me so I'll just forget it. What you want is something that's real to you, something that makes you feel something. It could be anything from wanting to spend more time with your parents to never wanting to miss a single little league game to having more time to volunteer at church. Find something that affects you emotionally, and you will be much more likely to stay the course when you talk to somebody who just doesn't get it!

Make it specific. If one of your goals is to buy a new home for your family, great! What will that house look like? How big will it be? How many bedrooms? Bathrooms? Imagine everything from the wallpaper to the flooring. Basically make it as real as possible to you. So real that you could close your eyes and take a tour of your new home if you wanted. If one of your goals is to take a great vacation with your family ask yourself, where do we really want to go? How long will we want to stay? You get the idea. The more specific your dreams are, the more real they become in your mind and the harder you are willing to work to make those things happen.

The idea of using a network-marketing program to generate extra income has taken North America by storm. More and more people are looking around, attempting to find a real winner.

The problem is that network marketing companies are sprouting up all over the place and there's just too many of them to keep up with. This makes the choice of which program to join a frustrating and time consuming process. Before you join any network marketing company, go through this checklist.

Think about the product. Is it a product that you would use regularly, and freely recommend to your friends? Is it lower prices, more convenient to use than similar products available elsewhere? Finally what about delivery? How much time lapses between the time the order is placed and when the order is received?

Find out as much about the company as you can. Be wary of chain letters, pyramid scams, and ridiculous claims about how much you can make. Be sure to find out exactly what you're getting for your sign up fee. Make sure the company provides you with professional sales materials and that they're reasonably priced. If you're involved with a company that makes its money from the training material that isn't a good sign. Find out about the company's financial backing and corporate officers-are they in this as full time professional sales people? Be sure to understand/know how the company keeps track of all the incoming orders and when, as well as how you'll be paid.
